| CAN
I COUNT ON BENEFITS IF I GET HURT?
Most
Wisconsin workers think they will be guaranteed workers compensation
benefits if they get hurt at work. Even though benefits are supposed
to be virtually automatic, if you are a Wisconsin worker who gets
hurt at work, the Workers Compensation Insurance Company may find
ways to reduce or stop paying benefits. Some insurance companies
look for ways to cut off payment of medical bills and weekly cash
benefits, even if the treating doctor is not releasing the worker
to return to work.
HOW
CAN I PAY FOR A LAWYER?
Attorney
Bill Olson asks for no money up front for costs. His fee is dictated
by Wisconsin state law which allows an attorney a 20% contingency
fee. You receive four-fifths of benefits you would not receive
without his work. He receives one-fifth. Even then, all fees and
out-of-pocket attorney costs must be approved by an Administrative
Law Judge in the Wisconsin Workers Compensation Department and
he gets paid only when you do.
IF
I'VE BEEN INJURED AT WORK
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF:
-
the
Workers Compensation Insurance Company hires a nurse to go
along when I visit my own doctor?
-
I
discover I am being followed or photographed, or my neighbors
are being questioned about my activities?
-
the
insurance company sends me to a so-called "Independent"
Medical Examiner?
-
my
employer promises to honor my doctor’s restrictions
but then gives me work that violates them?
-
the
Workers Compensation Insurance Company hires a vocational
consultant to help me find a job?
